Under RBI’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) pilot program, State Bank of India was selected as one of the 9 banks participating in the Wholesale and Retail CBDC pilots aimed at building an enterprise-ready and future-proof digital currency ecosystem to enable regulated digital payments. Quadcentrix (previously known as SettleMint India) assisted SBI’s CBDC implementation efforts, contributing to platform stabilisation across User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Production and Disaster Recovery (DR) environments.

The critical difference between legacy digital payments and CBDC transactions is that the underlying digital currency token needs to be perfectly synchronized across all participating blockchain nodes, applications and Core Banking Systems (CBS).
During initial platform stabilisation efforts, infrequent token mismatches caused tokens to become stranded (unable to complete payment transactions) or get stuck in reconciliation.
While these cases were few and far between, increased transaction volumes made it difficult to spot and rectify these cases manually.
